  1. It is out of our control….. Comforting ourselves that we can stop global warming, when history must show even this fool that it is a natural cycle, scares me more than any doomsday prediction. I would love to hear this guys opinions about the Eocene era around 50 million years ago. Or another spike 92 million years ago, or other similar spikes between 500 million & 250 million years ago.

Utterly pathetic, intellectually and personally to suggest false hope is better than practically dealing with any impending problem… I am not a climate change denier. I claim that we are not smart enough to outwit natures cycles, that lay outside our sphere of influence….. I also claim that David Wallace-Wells is wasted on intellectual endeavours….. Can someone get him a manual labour job before they disappear altogether. Maybe he should worry about that. Human labour is disappearing faster than the ice caps….

So, we build boats, or we build spaceships. Either way, this guy can't help us….. Maybe we should get Rick Sanchez to tell him to clear his throat. Then we can at least drown in peace…..

  2. whatever the consensus and likes/dislikes. Thank you Joe, for keeping interesting and diverse podcasts.

Understanding climate change is crucial. How much humans have a role in the change, I don't know. On a 'civilisation' scale (few thousand years) perhaps we do, and I think that's what the scientists are referring to. On a 'planetary' scale (millions & millions years) we obviously don't, and extensive geological studies have shown multiple large shifts in earth's atmosphere ie climate changes (that we can't even imagine because we only truly think/feel in smaller time periods).

We have a lot to learn. Till then, I believe what the scientists are saying is that we should stop making it worse for ourselves while we have the power stop certain activities.
