The CDC (U.S Centre for Disease Control) assigns credit for abolishing measles, dysentery, scarlet fever, typhoid, typhus, cholera, the plague, etc. from the civilized world to improved nutrition and advances in water and sewer treatment, hygiene, chlorination and refrigeration.

A seminal study on the same subject by McKinlay and McKinlay concludes that vaccines can account for less than 1% of the decline in infectious disease mortality.
The McKinlays warned that vaccinologists and others in the medical industry would try to take credit in order to expand their profits and power.
