The idea of being beaten is not true for all Nigerians. Additionally, we Nigerians come to the west from different classes. There are quite a number of us who come from middle class families, and still continue to excel in education and work-life.
Family life that the guest talked about is close to the number one reason for Nigerian immigrant success in the west. However, I think there is yet something more potent than just the familial relationship of Nigerians. It is the culture and worldview of origin. Our African traditions and spiritual historical accounts tell us that a black person was created first and we are the cradle of human existence. Our traditions place our Black bodies and minds as the apex of human existence.
Unfortunately, I truly believe that Christianity and Islam are ferociously dismantling our African sense of self, autonomy and authenticity in the last several hundred years. The erosion of our humanity by the gullible acceptance of Christianity and Islam is becoming the number reason for the eventual annihilation of African souls.
