In the bible, mammon appears to be a term used to represent money. But in later works, mammon would become personified into an actual demon – one who robs the earth of her gold and tricks men onto his path.

The only way to heaven is Jesus Christ. Not works of good. If you serve Jesus then naturally you will seek to do what's right. Christianity is faith based & other religions are deed based. Just as many people say lucifer was a snake in the garden, it's a typical misunderstanding. However it actually says serpent. There are different types of serpents & not all are snakes just generally reptilian. Otherwise it makes no sense for his punishment to be to crawl on its belly slithering? He is also called a dragon which is a type of serpent yet generally has limbs. Another is the fruit in the garden. Many representations is a apple, the bible says fruit of the tree of knowledge. It doesn't state what fruit it is. It's possible it wasn't even a physical food. Regardless of if it was physical, the main point is the knowledge of good & evil that is important.
Any object, pursuit/desire that takes our attention away from God can be considered an idol and therefore evil. it's not money itself that is bad but rather the importance we give it in our lives. It's the "love" of money/wealth that is considered the root of all evil. Dependence on material is not a good thing. Material things can fade in their ability to provide security/wealth and eventually fade away. God however is eternal.
