  1. The dude Gary is correct. Insulin is the cause of fat gain or fat loss low insulin makes you lose weight. we're not isolated systems so the first law of thermodynamics doesn't 100% apply to calories in and calories out

  2. “It doesn’t matter what you eat.” Except for one thing: if you eat too many carbs and in particular ultra processed junk food…then you will be much hungrier and will tend to overeat.

  3. Excellent discussion! Gary Taubs is brilliant and he talks on a level that is challenging to understand but he's 100% correct. And he debunks the study Stephen is referencing in great detail in his book referenced here. But you need a decent IQ and lots of science geek interest and time to understand the science behind his argument.

  4. Guy in the black is talking rubbish. It’s all about energy expenditure. So yes it’s all about calories in vs calories out. But calories out is more dynamic than you think and is regulated by hormones. You will not gain weight during a famine (unless your energy expenditure is extremely low). Calories are calories. The carbohydrate-insulin model is a load of crap and is not scientifically validated. Where as calories in vs out again and again is backed up by studies.
