  1. Steroids in baseball become a big deal when they are used to break records. Roger Maris’s 61 home runs and Hank Aaron’s 755 were sacred and the most respected and coveted records in all of American sports. The Babe hit 60 in 1927 and that record stood until 1961. Ruth finished his career in 1935 with 714 career home runs. That record stood until Hank Aaron hit 715 in 1974. Nobody else had come close to these records until the steroid era.

You have to understand that baseball is America’s game and has a history stretching back to the 1860s. Way before the NFL, NBA, NHL or any of that stuff. To hold a record in Major League Baseball means that you were the best player in that category in the entire history of the game stretching back until the 19th century. To hold a home run record in Major League Baseball means that you had to surpass Babe Ruth, the most iconic American athlete EVER. That’s why it’s a big deal.

Barry Bonds holds the record for most home runs in a single season with 73 back in the 2001 season. GOOD LUCK to any clean player who wishes to get close to that total. 73 home runs in a 162 game season is NOT possible without PEDs. It just isn’t. Since the Steroid Era I believe only Giancarlo Stanton has been able to get within shouting distance with his 59 in 2017. Aaron Judge had 52 his rookie year but hasn’t been close to that total since then. You’ll never see a clean player break that record. THAT’S why it’s a big deal.
