These aren't "new" values or even exclusive to Americans or even humans … nature is incredibly savage and cruel and quite often the most reliable way to assure success (i.e. to survive) is to lie, cheat, and steal. Those who do not often quite literally die because we live in a godless universe which practically assures an endless cycle of meaningless cruelty and suffering. There is no justice in nature except that which we crudely force into it and quite simply we aren't even really trying to anymore. To be fair it was always a losing battle. Being fair, honest, and kind is fucking exhausting.
Well, I haven't seen that happening more here.
But, those values do exist, just not on the scale he's suggesting.
That could change (for the better or the worst).
