Layne keeps citing meta analyses to support his opinio, Dom gives anecdotal examples with “I think that” “my wife” “my student” “I know a person”…
Just as simple as create a calorie deficit is such a bad way to promote health. He acknowledges that 95% of diets fail but thinks it is so simple just restrict calories. That's why they fail. Hunger will always drive someone. He fails to really respect the power of Keto and carnivore.
It would be interesting to hear what Dr. Jason Fung has to say about the Calories In – Calories Out paradigm, because hea has been a keen opponent of the notion, that the calorie balance "is the most important thing for weigth loss", as Layne states 20m40s
I love how Jamie knows that Michael Jordan ate a steak/potato before games and not a Big Mac, and that the Big Mac rumour was because he was sponsored by McDonalds.
I respect and follow both of these guys. But frankly, Dom epitomizes why I lean toward the modified high protein Keto side vs higher carb. Layne seems perpetually wound up, type A, just like me when I eat low fat and high carb. Dom seems like a happy chill zen eskimo…just like me when I eat Keto. There is more to life than just weight loss and body comp. Frankly, carbs are good for lifting performance. But how I feel and behave on Keto is vastly more important than just my body results (which are more or less replicable on Keto anyway). N=1, but very profound difference in my case.
