My great grandpa that fought in the civil war when he was 16, came from Scotland as a smaller child with his folks, and fathered my grandpa at 72 & my great-aunt at 76… Did not have a nose, nobody ever said syphilis – but why would they? 😆
it was also because of lice and greasy hair… easier to shave it all off and wear a wig that it prestyled
