In reality this "base" is hardly an out post and is located right near the borders of Jordan, Syria and Iraq. Iran is close by too. It would be easy for them to launch it from syria in uncontrolled airspace. Iran is much more advanced than we give them credit for also. The drone was tricked into thinking it's landing spot was different then where it was supposed to land at. This is actually something many nations are able to do.
