  1. Hawaii. It's a 'state of mind' similar to a delusion.
It's a nice dream, but reality is only a rent check away. The political mind-set on Kauai is very much 'anti-development' / anti change.
The county 'Building Department' and the 'Planning Department' are part of the 'slowly grinding to a dead halt' vision of progress here on the 'Garden Island'. The beyond tight rental market drives good people off the island. Grocery prices make me sad. ( I recently paid $12.00 for a loaf of rye bread). I feel very sorry for anyone attempting to reside here on a small budget..
On top of that, oceanographic conditions are so extreme, there are more 'registered boats' in the State of Wyoming than there are in Hawaii. The 'tough as nails' fishing community are the only 'boaters' in Hawaii. The waters are just too rough and dangerous to be anywhere near relaxing.
Do I love living here? Yep, but we all pay a high price.

  2. I spent 2 summers a few hundred yards from where she lives. You need to be careful. I grew up in a rural area with a similar vibe. Be respectful and don't do anything stupid. But I did get the haole go home speech about once a week.

  3. Joe started a podcast to hear himself talk. If you've listened to his show you've heard every story he has to tell and it would be great to hear the guest talk without being interrupted.
