  1. I'm confused. The one thing Gary is definitely right about is the lack of good scientific practices in these studies. He brings up many points throughout regarding the evidence represented that clearly lessen their credibility and these points are often refuted.

I agree with Stephen and his approach I find to be more robust but if he continues to reference this evidence like it is an end all be all when it is clearly lacking then he has no right to be so smug in his assurance.

He acts like he is proving the world to be round.

  2. So the thing now is: we have a bunch of anecdotal and self experience that on low carbs and IF or carnivore and ketogenic diets some (can say also many when comes to some doctors’ clients) have a game changer tool not yet fully explained and studied. Ok, but you know what? I am an anecdote called my life and if I did not pioneer what medical field had not yet fully proved I would not be here commenting, so I took responsibility for my choices and which anecdotes take as reliable or partially reliable as containing something of common. See them in 20 years to correct reciprocal wrong points, and why all those anecdotes exist.

  3. Couldn't finish watching this. This Stephan guy couldn't explain a single piece of his evidence correctly, could not answer a single question. He also literally said, we've only sequenced 10% of the genomes that cause fat, to me that says, " We don't actually know anything but I'm going to sit here and act like I'm right and I will make sure you can't dispute anything by changing topics all the time."

  4. I don’t think Guyenet was overly condescending at all. He was just exacerbated and drained by Taubes’ unending game of smoke and mirrors in the face of overwhelming data. That said, as someone who followed a largely low carb paleo diet for over 20 years, I have empathy for Taubes. The low carb diet can have an almost magical effect at times. It starts out with a bang and overnight you’ve lost 10 lbs (of water, but who cares if you look great!). It can also be enormously less stressful than a low fat diet for people with blood sugar issues. This latter phenomenon demands more attention than Guyenet’s arguments offer, even if the insulin hypothesis is ultimately wrong (which it is). But explaining the sometimes magic of the low carb diet isn’t Guyenet’s job. I think Taubes needs to let go of the insulin hypothesis and focus his attention on how and under what circumstances the low carb diet can be a useful tool in weight loss. Because that would be genuinely useful. What he’s doing now is not.
