This guy needs to talk into the mic and stop periodically whispering while Joe is over there yelling. I have to watch this interview with one hand constantly turning the volume up and down.
His book "Outliers" examines the myth of the American Dream. very important read
Joe, recently you said on a podcast that you think "Defund the police" is something stupid which shouldn't be done and that the people asking for it are all crazy and don't understand what they're asking for.
I'd ask you to reconsider that, perhaps, you don't understand what we're asking for when we ask to defund the police. It's not an abolishment of upholders of the law, it's an abolishment of the practices and systemic structural design that we have which we call a justice system. It doesn't work, and it's old technology. Look at how long we've been doing this garbage to people, and you sit here listening Malcolm say it and you agree. By all means, uphold the law, but if a cop wants to pull me over for having one out of my two license plate illuminators out, there should be no legal precedent for him to suddenly think "This pothead gets to go through a system which is broken, corrupt, full of Nazi's and rapists, and I have no repercussions!"
The state of the telephone, going from telegrams to texts in 1.5 centuries. But from slavery to indentured servitude, and straight up locking people away in a cesspool. It's barbaric and archaic, there's no reason for it to exist.
universal language is a HORRIBLE idea as a spoken language. for like… official business – why not. for life…. what a horrible loss it would be
Imagine if all the cops were like Mr. Gladwell. Don't think we'd see nearly as many senseless killings.
