The ironic thing is that Joe sets up and then spectacularly misses the very same point of candlepin. We also think the "f—ing American" game of big ball can be dull with most of the pins getting hit on the break over and over, so the people who invented it a century ago shrunk the balls and pins specifically so that you had to do the ACTUAL fun thing, like the ACTUAL fun thing of billiards, the precision spare shooting/ pinning to succeed – with fallen wood to either give you sweet carom shots or piss you off with obstacles. The only way candlepin could be considered weaker is that the ball's smaller, but as someone who covers the current pro candlepin circuits, those best at power, balance, and consistency succeed most just the same.
