  1. “Tyre” meaning “ring shaped component mounted to a rim and most commonly made with rubber” was an intentional alteration in British English to differentiate it from the usage of “tire” meaning “to be exhausted”

    Why they felt the need to do so, I have no idea. But they felt strongly enough about it to make it so. I lump it into the same category as “aeroplane” compared to “airplane”
