Why is he dressed as a woman?
Eddie Izzard is a human above most humans🥰! But to answer his question, "Surgical spirit" is called "rubbing alcohol" in the US, also known as Isopropyl. Dangerous stuff. It's not the same as the ethanol based spirits we love to drink! Isopropyl will kill you if you consume it! There are many valuable uses for isopropyl, but due to its incredibly high flammable properties other astringents/disinfectants are more favorable. The name "rubbing alcohol" was derived from it's archaic use as a massage agent for tightening skin. It does tighten skin so long as you don't set yourself on fire and don't mind the toxic effects on your body as a whole. You're better off using isopropyl to clean your minor cuts and your tweezers! Also it removes ink stains 😉
