Whoa. I did a portrait of him as Jesus and the three letters in his iconographic halo were FOS for Freedom Of Speech. He had a wife beater on with a white robe over it soaked in blood and he was clutching a skull in one hand and flipping us all off with the other. NOBODY had a clue who the man in the portrait was. It struck me that even in 2010, he was largely forgotten. If you listen to some of what he says about sex, drugs, and race, it was very dangerous in the Beat generation.
