  1. I am a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Love and respect to both Joe and Callen! but I believe that they are misunderstanding this verse from the bible "“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth". Biblically speaking, Meek does not means poor, low-class, or weak. Meek in this context means humble and obedient towards God. If you are humble (not cocky or bigheaded) and constantly listen to God instructions…"you shall inherit the earth" meaning (you will be tremendously blessed here on earth!) This is a promise from God.

  2. The meek shall inherit the earth was a Christian prophecy, but Bryan interprets this as the morality behind how the US operates. This is the same premise as the "American Dream". That is a transcription of the morals, but it is the end result of the evolution of "The Rights of Man" theme. It starts with the Magna Carta and after many conflicts we end up with the English Revolution. The American Revolution was going to end the power of the loyalist aristocracy. Everyone gets a chance to make something of themselves here. The ability for the commoner to rise out of the class structure to make it into upper class society was always best in the US. This is a good relation in terms of the way the west has thrown off aristocracy, in favor of the rights of the common man. We have strong unions.

I think Christ said that the poor and downtrodden who suffer through life without resources would be the ones to inherit the earth. This was somewhat apocyliptic. They lived knowing that another cosmic event could come from "God", if they weren't moral. That's what all the old cultures passed down to say "and a flood" everything was destroyed. Who are always seen as the immoral ones in these narratives? The wealthy, educated and talented are always the immoral ones ruling the earth and exploiting the human populations.

Jesus was about being happy in spite of being destitute because God is with you and not the wealthy. Be moral and love God and you'll be wealthier than the richest man. Christ was a big thumb in the eye of the wealthy Roman aristocracy and wealthy Jewish clergy in Jerusalem. He exposed the money behind the temple, big problem with that. Jesus tossing money everywhere. He caused an uprising requiring the attention of the Governor Pontius Pilate. Jesus could have left, but felt he trial was important like Socrates. He wanted to make a point in Jerusalem and for all human history that anyone could worship God. Jesus wanted the world to bare witness to his persecution. Too bad, the Jews made up God making Jesus the son of a fabricated God. He was almost the son of a "Golden Calf", if Moses didn't step in there.
