For building muscle you shouldn't have to train more than 3 days a week imo. For fitness or endurance I feel u do need to train atleast 5 days a week.
You’ll find the book of fletcher in the gym bro bible
But there are people, men and women in the 50s and 60s completing in CrossFit.
