I have an idea for an alternative way of doing UBI, it has 2 parts:
1. what if every citizen was given a separate bank account, separate to their usual bank account, and that new bank account was a 'top up' account that would top up to 1000 dollars each month. If you don't spend the 1000 dollars nothing comes in at the end of the month. If you open 50 dollars 50 comes back in. If you spend the lot, 1000 comes back in. …
2. The bank account works such that you can only spend it on registered businesses that either: A: sell exclusively American made products and services. OR B: Are registered American rental agencies.
That way the money stays in America!!! … This would be extremely good for business opportunities for Americans too. It would also mean that there is less money going out of America and strengthening the economies of competing countries. How much of America's income gets spent on asian-made products currently? …
Some people have the argument that giving out money to everybody would increase rent prices but actually the rent prices would only increase for the more up-market housing because that would be the housing that is rented to people that have the 1000 dollars PLUS an income from a job. The lower quality/price housing would be rented to people who only have the UBI as we are referring to a future when there aren't many jobs around. Therefore it would make no sense for the landlord to increase the rent since there is not enough people to pay for that…. Also, there wouldn't be as many people around in 15 years time who can afford to be property investors to begin with because they themselves will probably be on UBI. Residential property is unlikely to be much of a sound investment in 15 years time. The cost of building will be less thanks to 3D printing. And other factors like probably less immigration as the 3rd world countries become industrialised and no longer have an excuse for immigrating. That would make property investment less feasible.
