Dad used to be in the construction business (Iron Workers) back in the 80s. Well, I guess they were trying to build up the oil facilities in the Middle East, Africa and other underdeveloped (at the time) nations. So they were offering these union iron workers (super well trained; dad can read prints very well due to his training) TAX-FREE, big money if they stayed wherever they were sent for 5 years. Only thing is: they didn't guarantee your safety and if you bailed early, you had to pay all the back taxes.
So one of my pop's friends took the offer. (I don't think my mom gave her blessing to my dad.) They sent him to India or one of those Asian countries. After 3 years, the guy bailed.
"What happened?" my dad asked.
"Man, they were having me hire little kids who didn't have any shoes climb up those steel beams" for I'm guessing simple laborer work. "Some of these guys would fall off the buildings and die. The owners would just have me hire another one. They're expendable, they told me. I couldn't take it anymore."
Anyone know what docu he is talking about on Netflix? I'd be interested in watching it.
