How many who are "church-goers", who profess to be "Christians", searches the Bible carefully ? Who are the "antichrists", that means "against (or instead of) Christ") ? The answer is Christendom, counterfeit Christians.
The King James Bible reads at 1 John 2:18-22: "Little children, it is the last time ("last time" of what ?): and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even NOW (in 98 C.E.) are there MANY antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time (before the foretold apostasy or "falling away" from true Christianity that Jesus spoke of at Matt 13:24-30 and the apostle Paul at 2 Thess 2:3-12)."
"They went out from us (or from "the truth", true Christianity, John 18:37), but they were not of us (pushing falsehoods or lies, such as "the Holy Trinity", hell fire, immortality of the soul, the cross, purgatory, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc); for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued WITH US (or with true Christianity): but they went out (or left "the truth"), that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us."
"But ye have an unction (or anointing) from the Holy One (God, with holy spirit, see Eph 1:13, 14), and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth."

The apostle John further writes: "Beloved, believe not every spirit (or every inspired statement), but try (or test, Greek dokimazo, meaning "to test, examine, prove, scrutinize") the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world."
"Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ (as God's only-begotten Son, as having a father, and NOT "God the Son", which is twisting scripture) is come in the flesh is of God (and NOT the incarnation of God, for Jesus had to a real human, as "the last Adam", 1 Cor 15:45, that replaced the original rebel Adam, Gen 3:1-6, being his EXACT replacement, see Ex 21:23, of "life for life", as obedient mankind's "Eternal Father", Isa 9:6): And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even NOW ALREADY is it in the world."(1 John 4:1-3)
So, what should a sincere Bible reader have learned ? That the "antichrists", that means "against (or instead of ) Christ", is NOT a single man, has been existing for almost 2,000 years, that came from true Christianity and has replaced "the truth" with their falsehoods, their false religious lies, and today is a major player in the realm of the religions of the world called Babylon the Great, so that the "antichrists" is Christendom, counterfeit Christians.
But despite the apostle John exposing the "antichrists", explaining who they are, as liars, and where they came from, from true Christianity, having abandoned it, practically NO one will see "the truth", for they are like what the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy:
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (or "the truth", see John 8:32); but after their own lusts (or desires) shall they heap (or surround) to themselves (false) teachers, having itching ears (or have their ears tickled, despising "the truth" about Jehovah, Jesus Christ and the holy spirit)."(2 Tim 4:3, King James Bible)
