The idea of china nuking the U.S. is hard to contemplate, mainly because of what the world would be like for china even if they got off without a scratch. Does china rely on the united states for supply? do they rely on the united states as customers? what would be the benefit of incinerating an important business partner? Also, how would the rest of the world treat you after killing a couple hundred million people? These are important questions you have to answer before a country has to think about before pushing that button. The same goes for the united states. In the 21st century most military and economic goals are accomplished with asymmetrical warfare. No need for a hot war when you're winning the cold one.
