  1. There are times when Joe is just a fantastic interviewer, gives the guest so much time and room to deep dive on fascinating things & Joe can throw in some great things to talk around, but this is not one of those times. Nancy is amazing to listen to, and we do get to listen to lots of her which is great, but throwing in things like 'Well, Andrew Yang suggested every cop should learn Jujitsu'. Right, cos no one's ever thought about that in the police force and how feasible it is or isn't…
Also, he just seems to paint an almost cartoonish/movies based image (maybe his own image) of the police and what they do and don't do, it was slightly cringeworthy at times, which is weird cos Joe is a very bright guy.
Then sometimes I think he's just spitballing to keep things moving along as is his style but was falling back on stereoptypes of police a bit, I just thought his understanding of police & policing would've been a bit more sophisticated than that.
Also, I fully admit that 'Defund the Police' is a dreadful slogan that really gets across the wrong idea of what those behind the ideas of the slogan wanna achieve. As I understand it, the idea of it is to siphon off some of the duties police forces have ended up taking-on that might be better served without a uniform and a deadly weapon, which doesn't seem like a bad idea to me, if it can be done effectively.
The fact that Joe thinks it's about having a much smaller police force, or no police force at all, I really don't think that's what 'Defund the Police' means, and I've personally never heard anyone behind that premise say that either, but yet many seem to think it does, which I think drives home my earlier point that 'Defund the Police' is a dreadful slogan cos it's not conveying the message it's backers wanna get across at all.
The 'Defund the Police' crowd should have a presser, come out very publicly, put that slogan to bed and release another one that much better represents what they're trying to put forward, like 'Black Lives Matter', which is an effective slogan and ….most….people can get what it's trying to say.

  2. Imagine living in a drug rich community, with gang members running wild and cops seeing everyone living in this ghetto as a hoodlum. People from improvished communities need mental wellness checks too. But nah, we can't have ptsd from the shit we see.. no one wants to talk about that either.
