Good credited zoos do more for conservation than any of us will do in 10 lifetimes, zoos serve as embassadors for the animals, a visit to a zoo, seeying the animals right there in front of you surpasses any emotion you can get from a documentary, of wichbkids just dont have the patience to sit through. I worked i zoos that treat their animals better than most hospitals treat their patients, I've seen freacking elephants recieve acupuncture right in front of me. Plus most zoologists even famous ones like Sir David Attenburough and Jane Goodall are pro zoos
Don’t know why you’re shocked that China and Russia still do this. Ever been to China? I have. They eat live creatures. They torment animals before they kill them. They’re fucking psychopaths.
Also if we do release these animals back into the wild and if we choose never to place them into captivity again; is whaling now back on the table? If I can shoot a deer, a boar, or a wolf why can’t I hunt a whale? Wild Boars are as intelligent as apes, wolves are just a hair less intelligent than that and have packs. And yet they are animals I can hunt. Why not whales? What happens when they over populate the ocean and over feed to the point that it effects the ecosystem they live in? How far do we take this “they’re intelligent so no captivity” stance? What will this do as far as precedents setting? This issue is much more complex than just “we shouldn’t be mean to the smart animals”. Yeah captivity is messed up and yes I think it doesn’t make much sense to keep these animals in tanks to be stared at like some kind of oddity but what is the new paradigm? This isn’t something that will just stop with whales.
If only humans wouls care a tenth as much unto actually being proactive toward their fellow humans as those dolphins. Same for preborn humans versus sea turtle eggs.
