In Bible prophecy, a woman is generally used to refer to a religious body, nation or group of people. For instance:
The nation of Israel is referred to as the bride of God
The church is referred to as the bride of Christ
The harlot woman riding on the beast with 7 heads & 10 horns thus refers to a religious group/body that resembles the bride of Christ (Church), but an apostate/blasphemous one and there are several clues to her identity:
The beast with 7 heads & 10 horns: The Roman Empire, which consisted of 10 nations & tribes, but 3 tribes disappeared, leaving only 7.
The harlot riding the beast – The Vatican/Roman Catholic Church , a church that resembles the true christian church but is full of idolatry, blasphemies amd even has a history of persecuting the true christians. It appears to control the roman empire, while the force (devil) that actually controls the roman empire is the one using the Vatican for his own ends
