I could be wrong, but this is my epiphany I extrapolated from this video.
Intelligence (in the form of "book smarts") sways to the left.
Wisdom (in the form of "street smarts") sways to the right.
Society is pushing for college/degrees/intelligence more than ever, which is why we have these incredibly intelligent people on paper who don't know how to handle their emotions and don't have common sense.
If we look back at the wars of the twentieth century, those involved will fail tests we give middle-schoolers nowadays, but are emotionally robust and know how to survive. Street smarts haven't disappeared altogether, but have diminished significantly.
I'm not advocating for one over the other (in fact both types of smarts are equally important to have), I just feel like modern times make so much more sense as to why they are the way they are.
