We don't need to go to asteroids for resources. We can simply make a machine that creates any atom we need in any quantity. Ball lightning can alter the number of protons in atoms. We simply need to create a ball lightning generator, run it for a certain amount of time, and we have the atom we want. Simple, not easy. This is the holy grail of abundance.

this was always the 1950's sci-fi utopian dream, (3:00) — except when automation took over, we started working as much or more and taking on work of more people instead. This is like the bottom part of any job description that tends to end with, "any and all assigned duties by management".
