  1. This is a more rational approach for how we learn. It’s also is one of the biggest problems with schools. Learning and knowledge acquisition must come from genuine interest and a desire to understand something or solve a problem rather than remembering a bunch of ‘correct answers’ to things you just don’t care about. When I was at school, I had no interest in the history they were teaching. I practically learnt nothing. And that’s not really an exaggeration. But, I am interested in the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians, for example. And I have particular interests within those categories. So just as an example, I’m interested mainly in how they lived, so I’ll get a book on Egypt, and I’ll read the chapters that tell me about that. I’ll ignore the chapters that are about other things I’m not interested in yet. But usually, reading that chapter, sparks an interest in something else. Maybe something in the chapter is mentioned, and I don’t know what it is about. And understanding it will allow me to understand the information in the chapter I’ve just read better. So now I go and learn about that. It’s much more practical and effective. Part of me actually thinks a much better and more effective way of teaching something like philosophy’s for example, would be to give students a list of problems in philosophy that haven’t been solved or are still big issues, and the relevant philosophers who have written on the subject, and allow the students to work on them.
