  1. This girl who grew up and went to a fine arts high school in San Francisco told me to check my privilege once. Me, a middle class girl from North Carolina who’s parents were always worried about money because her dad was losing all his jobs to alcoholism. Don’t judge a book by its cover. My mom had zero help growing up, her own mother didn’t want her, her step mom abused her. She built everything for herself and my sisters from the ground up. She still provides for all of us, but she never had privelege. I would say I personally have a lot of privelege, but mostly because I have a mom who is way too giving and will bail me out whenever and if ever I need her to. I grew up with all my friends being poor white/Hispanic kids. The white kids had no more privelege than the blacks.
These people created this whole concept and are sharing it like gospel. It’s scary how many false accusations and stories they come up with and I don’t really understand the motive.

  2. If you want to gain some insight into racism or sexism or classism, ask yourself this question…
If you got to choose whether you were Male or female, white, black, rich or poor… how would you choose and why.
This little exercise can help you come to terms with a lot of truth with respect to power.

  3. I'm a white woman and I feel the same about male privilege, it seems unhelpful and divisive even if men don't have to deal with some things women do (and vice versa). And is it supposed to make me want to change genders so I can be "privileged" or make men feel guilty for their gender? I also don't know why people think it is possible to eliminate prejudice completely, though we can do our best to fight against the outward expressions of it, or why people think it we did eliminate it there'd be a perfect utopia.
