My happy to be born in the Gracie family my name is Landon Gracie
The Gracie name is a Scottish name. Their ancestor moved from Scotland to Brazil, thus keeping the Scottish warrior culture flowing in another part of the world!
It's an awesome art but relies on mostly grappling. Not necessarily effective in real live combat? You want to grapple? But I have a huge knife and I'm trained as a knife fighter? And you want to grapple? Your toast. Not to mention that in real life combat I can take you out with eye strikes and so many more. Grappling is only one range. 3 more coming at you. The octagon is only one truth~the half truth in actual combat. That's why grappling is glorified. Because of the octagon, Because it's not quite lethal enough against the other ranges . Which falls short in real life combat! Period! See any soldier grapple without a weapon? sometimes perhaps, but most real time combat should be stopped standing up. Instantly. Don't even ever buy that grappling rules, it may cost you your life

Gracies are important for Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Strictly Jiu Jitsu though which is very much overated.
