Or maybe the universe itself if consciousness expressing itself in infinite forms?
The dogs senses are heavily acute in sound and smell. The dog can smell how much of your scent is still there or isnt and gets a memory based on how much of your scent is or isnt there..its not that he knows what time it is but knows he better be smelling more of you soon or he will be hungry.
