For me as an African-American it's a tricky subject because while I grew up in a financially well off home in a pretty well off neighborhood, I know that there are plenty of those who weren't as privileged as me and who grew up in low income communities. Sure African-American people living today didn't go through slavery, but it's not as if stuff just instantly got better afterwards. In addition to that, after the emancipation of slavery many former slaves weren't even paid reparations. Jewish victims of the Holocaust were given reparations and so were Japanese-Americans who spent time in internment camps(rightfully so). I don't necessarily think that each African-American should receive and individual check but at the very least I think money should be put into lower-income communities to help build them back up. Just my 2 cents.
