Monopolies are bad for the individual. For capitalism to work, you must break up Monopolies, because competition is better for the people, the individual.
If two companies sell the same product, but the one is selling their product for double the cost of the other company, which company do you think the people will buy from? That my friend is competition, and capitalism.
The company with the higher price will make more money in the short term, but the company with the lower price will make way more money in the long term.
Same goes with internet companies. As of right now, there are still Monopolies on internet companies too. But at least we have a few to choose from.
Xfinity was charging me more money for less service and performance then its competitor, Fios. So I switched to Fios, now I get way faster internet, better tv, for less money.
Xfinity was charging me about $200 for basic cable, and 200 mb/s download and 50 upload.
With fios i get more TV channels, 1 gigabit upload and download, for about $170 a month. And that's not a contract, so the price doesn't go up.
That's dumb.
