This is a ridiculous concept, what Democrats can do is remove the racism from southern states, it is a frivolous idea to pay reparations to people who were born free
I’m a first generation Chicano. I’m a waiter because my family learned to sell food because they don’t speak English. I learned about money by going to school. I work. I know I’ll be fine if I keep working and investing. My kids will be second generation and slightly better off than me hopefully. My family will see generational wealth eventually. And we started here in the 90s. The US is a great country with opportunities.
Reparations is another form of a race to the bottom.
1. People are judged according to the culture they live in. If a law is unjust, and is struck down, the immediate beneficiaries are rewarded. You cant make the same argument 100 years later that reparations are still owed, especially when reparations are optional, not mandatory.
2. Tying reparations to race is another form of racism. Its counter to the ethos of the present.
3. Pointing fingers at reparations for native americans doesnt help the case. Native americans lost their entire land, but had leverage enough to force the govt to give them reservations. Other races didnt face the same loss of territory, not to mention the lack of leverage at the time. Hence, nobody would be interested in providing those reparations today.
Is the black man ignorant, or a shill, for Republicans? Slavery and racism weren't (and still aren't) politically sponsored. While it's true, some Democrats started the klan, it's not true all Democrats supported it.
During the mid-twentieth century, the Republican and Democratic Parties changed platforms. So, even if the Democratic Party were to blame, they are not the same Democratic Party of today.
Reperations is a foolish idea. It's akin to whites wanting reperations because they weren't forced bred to make bigger and better athletes.
I'm sorry but anyone wanting to profit off of what slaves went through, don't really care about it. You should not want to profit off the atrocities they went through and you damn sure shouldn't think money fixes it
