I agree they need to stop with the sports. If they continue they will alienate their allies eventually.

Sports shouldn't be the only concern. Kids being taught they can change who they are when they are just kids is WRONG

As a trans woman, I agree that trans women should not be allowed to participate in women's sports at a competitive level. If we had no biological advantage over women I would feel differently but that's not the reality. I got into an argument with another trans friend of mine about this and I remember she said that while she acknowledges the biological differences that trans women and cis women (biological women) have, she saw it as a slippery slope toward the complete removal of trans rights. I do think that some people use the sports argument as a way to get normal folks riled up against trans people but it still doesn't mean my friend's argument is right. She did come from a really awful household where her parents abandoned her for being transgender so I think a lot of her anger and clouded judgment comes from trauma. I feel bad for her because I truly believe we can exist in a society where trans and non-trans people can live in harmony and mutual respect and not fear/hate each other. Bigotry and hatred in any form do nothing good and just cause people to further alienate. I wish as a society we could come together and have a respectful and nuanced conversation about gender. Transgender people have existed since the beginning of written history, nearly every culture throughout history has acknowledged the existence of trans people or a "third gender". Whether we are talking about the Galli's of ancient Greece and Rome, or the Hijras and Kathoeys of Asia, trans people have been documented and were often accepted by many cultures throughout history. These cultures found a way to come together and fit gender non-conforming people into their society and I think it is time for modern western civilization to have a nuanced, nonjudgmental, and open conversation about the existence of people like me, people whose happiness depends on them living outside their biological gender. Hating and fearing each other is going to do nothing to facilitate this important conversation and just continue dividing a country that so desperately needs to come together.
