10:00 – People who get the most recognition or seem to be the most knowledgeable/skilled are often people who are so obsessed with something that they willingly put themselves through mental and/or physical torture for years. They're rewarded because they put themselves through hundreds of times more abuse and stress than any sane person would tolerate. Literal workaholics. From the second they get up to the second they go to sleep, and half the time in their dreams they're working.
There's a tendency for people to look at these rockstars and be incapable of fathoming how they even got there. The initial response used to be that it was "talent". In recent years, this somehow shifted to an idea of "privilege" (i.e. luck). And now we've reached a point people are just saying "the entire system is just a hierarchical social construct and it needs to be corrected". They can't win the game, so they want to change the rules. This is what happens when you raise people with the mentality that everyone is a winner, and then eject them into a world where this is clearly not the case.
Joe, it's not complex. It satisfies the scientific method or it doesn't. This basically means that we have to eject philosophy from the university.
Joe rarely lets an illustrative metaphor go by without getting side tracked. Frustrating.
This is such a dumb understanding of evolutionary biology. He thinks he was ‘born a mathematician. He thinks that environmental factors play no part in his ability to achieve what he became. He thinks that financial stressors, gender opportunity, access to good health care, good schools, safe home and external environments, skin colour (racism) and lack of access to networked resources play no part in a child’s development. The social sciences provide the proof and work just as hard as any mathematician in their field. The social sciences prove Weinstein utterly wrong. Thank god for them because they provide detailed historical proof that his type of rhetoric is false and has no place in educational institutions. No one seeks to enter anyone’s field and undermine its ability to achieve excellence. Your child has greater opportunity to achieve and fulfil its potential than millions of other children who are as equally intelligent and capable and that’s what the social sciences illuminate and seek to address. They could care less or give a f**k about your lab.
Lets be real, this is all just stemming from all the kids who’s parents bought their way into college but their too dumb to actually learn anything, so they invented their own “genre” of science as if it was a fucking band.
