  1. Jackson was absolutely bonkers. Some highlights of his life include:

-during his days as a military officer, he was involved personally in a battle and had killed so many enemies he was entirely covered in blood. His own men thought he had been killed and came back to life.
-He didn't give two shits about diplomatic treaties and repeated violated orders to withdraw or stand down during the War of 1812, and later the First Seminole War. His actions were tolerated because his victories kept gaining more land for the United States. He was instrumental in gaining Florida for the US as he interpreted his orders as "invade Florida and kill everyone who gets in the way." His actions caused Washington to shit themselves since they thought they were now going to have to get into conflict with Spain, but Spain was dealing with problems in it's other colonies and said "fuck it", selling Florida to the US. One of his biggest supporters at this time was John Quincy Adams, who negotiated the deal with Spain, ironically becoming one of Jackson's political enemies later during his bid for the Presidency.
-he had been shot several times, first as a General during a street brawl in Nashville, and several times later on during duels. He had a bullet in his chest that couldn't be removed, in addition to several others. It was said he had so many in his body you could hear them rattling whenever he moved. He even dug one out of his arm with a penknife and presented it to a former enemy as a peace offering.
-He was the first populist president, running as a man of the people since he didn't come from old wealth, nor was he aristocratic. His war-time actions made him exceptionally popular, and he was seen as an "outsider" in Washington. His plain (and vulgar) manner of speaking set the standard that still continues to this day, with any hint of elitism being perceived as akin to political suicide.
-Despite losing his first bid as president, Jackson and his supporters did everything they could to sabotage John Quincy Adam's presidency to ensure Jackson would win later. This resulted in Adams paying off the majority of the US's financial debt since he was hectored nonstop about it by Jacksonians, and later on Jackson paid off the rest of it, but took credit for the whole thing. Then later still the US faced a severe financial crisis as a result of Jackson's anti-bank policies but he never got blamed for it despite it being his fault since he was already out of office.
