In England there was union football and Association football .Association football became a soccer type game and union became rugby. Soccer was a Nick name from the middle letters from the word association. It started in England
The game globally was called football…. then the british changed it to soccer as a short form for aSSOCiation football when they created an association to standardise the rules… they brought that to america…
but later the French created FIFA and insisted the game revert back to football
soccer comes from ASSOCIATION football and they called it soccer intil the 70s. at some point someone decide soccer isnt cool.
It came from rugby and was called soccer by the US because it originally was called asoccer meaning association football. Shortened to soccer.
