  1. Rugby and football are basically cousins, they both have links to older ball games which depending on the area of the UK you were from that was your version of football. Through time these different versions spread through out the uk then the empire and futher a field. Eventually they became the early versions of football, rugby, gaelic football aussie rules and American football. The later four being closer linked to rugby than to football.

An example would be in American football a touchdown evoled from rugby as in rugby to score a try, you need to touch the ball down in the try area. In early rugby trys were used to give a team a try a score from a kick which back then was worth more than a try but now like American football is just extra points.

  2. I grew up in Ireland and we called it (and I still call it) soccer. In Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia they also call it Soccer. So it's not 'Only in America'. Aussie Rules is a completely different and separate sport, nothing to do with Football/Soccer – it's like comparing lacrosse to baseball.

  3. Soccer is a strange game. Tiny ball, massive net…should be very, very easy to score points. And yet, sometimes a whole game goes by without a single point. Stands to reason that the players just aren’t very good.
