   From the Bible History,
   1 Samuel 30:1-8

   1 When David and his men returned to Ziklag on the third day, they found that the Amalekites had attacked the Negev and Ziklag. They attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire.
   2 They took captive all the women there, both children and adults. They did not kill any of them, but carried them off to their own home.
   3 When David and his men arrived at the city, they found it burned with fire and their wives, sons, and daughters taken captive.
   4 David and those who were with him wept loudly until they had no strength to weep.
   5 David's two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail the Carmelite, Nabal's wife, had also been taken captive.
   6 David was greatly distressed. For all the people were troubled because of their sons and daughters, and they spoke of stoning David to death. But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.
   7 David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, "Bring me an ephod." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
   8 David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I pursue this band of raiders? Can I overtake them?" He answered, "Pursue them. You will surely overtake them and deliver them."
   Ziklag Plundered

   Attack by the Amalekites
   Usually, when we go on a business trip, we go out trusting that the Lord will protect our homes. I think David went out with that same feeling. But when he returned to Ziklag on the third day, he found that it had become a disaster. The Amalekites had attacked the town, burned it down, and carried off all the women and children there. (1) When David and his men saw the city plundered, they wept loudly. At this point, they probably felt that their families had been killed. In the end, they had no strength left to weep. (2) David's wives, Ahinoam and Abigail, had also been taken captive. (3) The grief-stricken people seemed to think that David was entirely responsible. They spoke of stoning him to death. Danger befell David in an unexpected way. But he found strength in the Lord. The Bible expresses this as, "But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God." It was because his faith had lapsed that David left the Promised Land and went down to the land of the Philistines. And now he was reaping the price of that unbelief. In his desperate situation, David came to his senses and restored his trust in the Lord. Faith in the Lord is the source of strength. Ephod
   (1) David ordered Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod, which contained the Urim and Thummim, so that he could consult the Lord. David should have consulted the Lord before deciding to go down to the land of the Philistines, but he did not do so, which led to this crisis. (2) The Lord's answer was to pursue the raiders. He even promised, "We will definitely catch up with them. We will definitely rescue them." It was only at this point that David and his people were sure that their family members were not dead. How do you respond when people are in despair and complaining? Like David, let us learn to rely on the Lord's grace and gain strength from it.

   Today's theme is [Responsibility]. The thoughts of David's men. The men who trusted David and followed him saw their house burned down by robbers while they were away, and their families lost, and they held David responsible. Their anger was directed at David because they followed their leader's judgment. The heart of a person who thinks this way is, of course, a self-centered, sinful nature. The men followed David of their own accord. They believed that David was a trustworthy leader. However, as a result of deciding to follow David and following him, they lost their families and all their property. The men were blind to the fact that the responsibility was their own. Furthermore, the leader David lacked trust in the Lord God and made decisions based on his own head. As a result, he was unable to protect the lives of his family, the women and children, and they were taken hostage by terrorists. Therefore, when we look at the root of the responsibility of the fruit tree of this result, we see that the origin is man's lack of trust in God. The true nature of sin is self-centeredness.
