The lawsuit story involving Rorion I heard – was that he tried to sue his cousin Carley over using the name, "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu". Despite the fact that Carley was actually teaching it in America for four years prior to Rorion – back in 1972. Rorion started teaching it in 1976.
I guess that powerful lawyer guy was to Jean-Jacques – what Gasteo Gracie was to Esai Maeda.
Rulk Rogan.
Chuck Norris is a 44th degree Black Belt. And that’s not even a joke.
I first encountered Chuck at Maddison Square Garden at Mr. Rhee’s Internationals in 1967. I had done a little Karate in 1966, but got drafted in 1967. I saw a lot of bad Karate at the prelims, but saw Mr. Norris in the finals the following day. Clearly in my mind he was the class of the tournament and he won. Later I saw him in 1970, in Long Beach, CA at Mr. Parker’s Internationals and accidentally met him in the parking lot. I told him that I had seen him in 1967 and he asked if I trained. I responded that I trained under Mr. Ohshima and he said that he knew Mr. Ohshima. He was very humble and complimentary of Mr. Ohshima. Later I learned that Mr. Ohshima had invited his group to come to Special Training in 1967 (I think that was the year). I was very impressed with Mr. Norris. I later became good friends with his first Black Belt, Mr. Osborne.
