TM technique is fine on its own; problem is the TM organisation is basically a scam. They preach the technique as simple and effective (apparently this is backed up by scientific research, so all ok with that), but they trademaked the words "Transcendental meditation", they sue people if they teach if for free, they want you to keep the mantra a secret and they charge a shitload of money for simple classes, that tells you something about their seriousness
It's not a cult,its just this amazing wonderful, incredible life changing thing, youre so much worse without it, but you can only learn it from these select few numbers of people and it can cost a lot of money and the guy who created it lived in a gigantic villa that had luxury cars and private jets but he was a guru so he was against material wealth so its totally not his stuff its just the organisation's stuff and he charged huge amounts of money for lessons but its totally not a cult bro
