Jesus gave us the Golden Rule, which summarises the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 7:12 says

for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
We are to follow and exercise the Golden Rule because God’s heavenly wisdom teaches self-control, and his virtue teaches Kindness.

The golden rule is something I've been taught since I was little. I've been taught that by my parents, my teachers, and any other type of mentor that I had growing up. I am a kind-hearted person. I've been a kind-hearted person almost all my life. I've been taught to treat others as you want to be treated, be unto others as you want others to be unto you. I've learned the hard way over the years, just because I don't treat people like garbage, doesn't mean no one will ever treat me like garbage. Just because I'm kind with everybody, doesn't mean everybody will always be the same with me. That's why I don't take things personal anymore. Of course I get upset if somebody does me wrong like any average person would, but I don't hate it enough to let it ruin my day. I follow the examples of Jesus and the Apostle Paul.
