The rural population centers DON'T WANT TO BE GOVERNED, and they DON'T WANT THINGS TO CHANGE. So, why should a politician care about catering to them? The people who live in largely populated areas are diverse and changing with the time. If America is going to continue to LEAD the world, it has to PROGRESS. You can't progress, if you don't CHANGE. The electoral college is antiquated and needs to be abolished.
He's wrong that a pure popular vote is the only alternative. We need a proportional system so everyone's vote matters.
For the last 30 years, the only time a Republican President has won the popular vote was in 2004 yet there have been multiple other Republican Presidents. This is the only reason they want to keep the electoral college because it puts them in office against the will of the people.
There is a plan already in the works to eliminate the electoral college, and it will probably be complete in the next 10 years.
There will be a pact among a bunch of states that they will agree to assign their electoral votes automatically to the winner of the national popular vote.
There is a problem with our current system because every election comes down to the battleground states.
