This is from a few years ago but you may want to recheck the data on the guns to hammers thing. The statistics are showing that is definitely not the case these days .
Biggest failure is the loss of community policing, we never needed the police we dealt with issues locally, mass immigration without allowing time to integrate, too many cultures that contrast without education to pull them together, give kids more fun things to do and allow parents the ability to parent without the state looking over your shoulder, sadly the 80s are gone and the new world is unfixable 😢
