Here's the thing. I don't think this is so crazy. The problem with getting coaching past the very basics is that other people's bad habits and the way other people do things are passed on, and the thing is, we have different bodies and different mindsets and you may be boxing me into this idea or this technique that really isn't compatible with me, and I may never know that. This is not to say that you should never have coaching at all, or that you should not work with other fighters to hone your skills. That always has to happen, because just as it may hurt you to pick up someone's bad habits, someone may show you a different way of doing something you're struggling with that breaks you through. But he's exactly right about conditioning, and I don't know why that's not simply common knowledge. Once you are highly proficient and well rounded in a fight style, the main thing that separates fighters, outside of those with just a natural fight IQ, is the strength and conditioning. You know how to punch, you know how to kick, you know how to block, and so do I – now who is going to start getting tired and making mistakes sooner? Even if my fight IQ is lower than yours, if my conditioning holds up good for 4 rounds and you're winded by the 3rd, then we begin to get on a level playing field and pretty soon you'll be making worse choices than I will.
