I know why some guys wouldn’t report their bands. We had the season closed for 3 years during the end of November by the waterfowl biologist by band reports. I go to every years meeting and due to the amount of bands reported during the migration he closed our zone.
I was the first to report my bands and totally understand conservation but that thanksgiving week has been at least a 30 year tradition for my group of hunting buddies.
The best band I have was shot in CT and banded in Greenland before it could fly on a male Black Duck.
I wish I could share the images of bands. When we were young men I kept a diary of all the hunts and we use to average 5-6 bands a year but we hunted geese a lot. 5-6 bands out of 400 geese a year average between 6 guys.
They are rare we just hunted every day of all 3 seasons we get in our area.
I got 4 bands
He just skipped the reason most think its cool……to know where the bird you shot came from
A buddy shot a snow goose that was banded 19 years earlier. Seriously, how old do those snow geese get?
I mainly think that it’s hunters feel the more bands that get reported, then the limits may get lowered. I’ve heard this said many times.. by those guys that don’t report them
