Did Joe Rohan just describe Donald Trump?
I understand the old man's perspective. I've been a paramedic for a long time and I can tell you that CPR and life saving interventions are brutal, and very few people survive with the same quality of life they had before they temporarily died. I can understand not wanting to go through that again.
Couple of points from a 70 year old. These guys are young enough that they have a certain quality of life. That deteriorates as you get older. Maybe it is a blessing that if you live long enough death does not seem so bad compared to what you have left. The other thing is, maybe broken ribs will heal in a couple of months when you are 30 but when you are 80 it's a completely different story. You may be in a lot more pain and disabled for a long time, and they may never heal properly. Why do you think the old dude was walking with a cane?
Another thing, if you live long enough you run out of fucks to give. When you have no job to lose, all the friends whose respect you crave are dead, your children all grown up and moved away, you are a short timer and there is nothing much society can do to help you or harm you, you have the luxury of cutting the crap and saying whatever you want. This can include being disturbingly frank with people, and it can also include messing with their heads.
No such thing as saving a life, you can prolong the inevitable. But the butcher's bill comes due.
It sounds like that old man was definitely a Trump supporter. He probably looks up and down before he crosses a street.
