After having plenty of dogs for decades. there are 2 forces at work.
The dog has some kind of logical/ human understanding.. he knows what to do and what not to do. He feels love, guilty, jealousy and knows what is right or wrong according to the rules you taught him.
On the other hand the dog has a primitive side, no matter how bad it is, sometimes his instincts take over. The dog might be showing his teeth at you because he thinks you will take away his bone, even though you gave it to him in the first place, and you have never betrayed his trust. So he growls at you yet feeling guilty at the same time.
He simply can't control himself..
Makes sense. You and I and everyone else can say yes, but nobody can PROVE it. Even if they could tell you, you still couldn’t fully know. Same for a lot of things.
Dogs have the intelligence of a two year old but instincts far beyond the human.
this guys an idiot if he cant recognize emotion in dogs, dogs get jealous if you pet another dog which is completely analogous to our sense of jealousy, they get angry if you tease them, they get sad if you leave them, they cry if you hurt them, they miss you if you go away, if they afraid they hide, etc etc. its completely dumb to not recognize that
